Faith & Works
But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?
-James 2:18-20
I've read these verses many times but I never understood how they tied together until something just clicked last week. It blew my mind to realize demons have faith too. They "believe" there is one God and shudder. So what makes our faith different from that of the demons? Works. Our works of good and love against theirs of evil and destruction. If we believe God is there, that He loves us, that Jesus died for us, but do nothing about it, then doesn't that make us worse than the demons who strive day and night against God's work? If the demons don't rest, then we can't either. I want a life of greater love expressed than all the evil acted out by a legion of demons. THEN it might be worthy. Then my faith might please God..
