What Our Brokenness Really Looks Like
Today a woman jumped out into the street in front of me. I was the only car coming forth on a multi-lane road in Whittier, and I didn't understand whether she was trying to cross the street, but I slowed down. When I crawled past her, I saw she was only clad in a pink bra and a big black jacket, looking completely trashed and beaten down by life. As I passed I saw she was crying out in agony, as if she wished I had run her over.
I don't know whether she's okay, and it troubles me. One thing's for sure..she didn't get the front of my hood but she's got my prayers. There's some broken people in this world, in Whittier as much as in the clean streets of the OC and Beverly Hills. Some folks just put a curtain over their brokenness with sparkling cars, fake smiles, and nice things.
