God wants us to Ask
Just read and was really blessed by an update from one of our long-term missionaries, Tim, in Lanzhou, China:
"Personally, I’ve been enjoying Gd a lot through answered pryers. In James 4:2 it says that you do not receive because you do not ask. I noticed that I don’t ask. It’s not so much because I don’t want to ask, it’s more because I don’t know what to ask. It got me thinking a couple months ago on my way to Kyrgyzstan. A sister in our chrch asked me what I liked to eat so that she could get me something for the train ride. For the longest time, I couldn’t
think of what to tell her so I ended up telling her that I liked to eat jellos. The day before the train ride, I got a lot of jellos because other people also found out that I liked to eat jellos. :) This was a big reminder from Gd that I need to know what I want and to boldly ask for these things. In the past my pryers have been too vague and unclear, where I wouldn’t even be able to know if Gd did answer them or not. Yet this showed me that when I ask specifically and boldly, he will also give in abundance! He wants to pour down his blssing, but we’re not asking him for it! So this thought got me going on starting a pryer booklet. I write down a specific pryer request on the first column, the date I asked on the second column, the date it was answered on the third and how Gd answered it on the fourth! This booklet has also been helping me understand a lot more of how to ask, receive, and experience Gd throughout the day. At the same time, I can also understand Gd’s heart a lot more clearly as I see the things that he does answer, and the things that he does not answer. I can identify what are the things that I ask with wrong motives and what things that I ask that are on Gd’s heart."
Tim was my teaching partner over VSET and I found we were alike in many ways in how we connect with God and His people. I related a lot with this paragraph, on not asking because I don't really think about what I want. God told me in a prophecy recently that that's one of the things He yearns for me to do, just ask. He wants to lavish on and bless me abundantly.."He's anxious to hear you ask," they said. I think I'll start a prayer booklet like Tim's. Like he said, it's also a good way to understand God's heart more clearly, and to see what motives in my heart are right or not~
